Based on your feedback, here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about our recliners, which we hope will help you maximize your comfort!
Q: What fabrics are available and what are they composed of?
A: Each collection (VivaLift! Radiance, Sitting Pretty Evolution, etc.) comes with its own uniquely named fabric. Click on the following links to view our VivaLift! fabric collection and our Sitting Pretty fabric collection to see the various options for each of our lift chairs.
Nearly every fabric for our power recliners is composed of either polyester, polyurethane, or a combination of both. The only exception is our SORRENTO fabric, available for instance on the VivaLift! Ultra, which is 100% American leather.
Polyester is a synthetic fabric and has a slightly silkier feel than cotton and would be considered a “cloth” fabric. Polyurethane is a composite material that imitates leather in look and feel and produces wrinkles like real leather. In some cases, these fabrics are blended to combine the properties of both materials, producing a similar “faux leather” appearance.
Q: Can I still operate my lift chair if the power goes out?
A: Yes! Whether the power goes out or for some reason your chair becomes disconnected from the wall outlet, each Pride power recliner is equipped with a “battery backup” to ensure that your chair will continue to function normally in the event of power loss.
Our VivaLift! models come standard with a lithium battery backup. The benefits of this feature are demonstrated in this Mastering Mobility video. Our Sitting Pretty collections are also available with an integrated battery backup that works the same way. So don’t worry if you’re enjoying a relaxing night in your recliner when the power suddenly goes out; you’ll still have the “power” to safely exit your chair when needed.
Q: How do I operate the hand control and are there any alternatives?
A: While the hand control for a three-position recliner (Sitting Pretty) is relatively simple with just two buttons for lift and recline, an infinite-position (VivaLift!) hand control is more complex, especially when factoring in other features.
Each VivaLift! control comes with buttons for adjusting the headrest, lumbar, back, and leg rest. The buttons for the headrest and lumbar are located under the words, while the buttons for the back and leg rest are placed above. The toggle button in the middle is similar to the arrow buttons that would be found on a three-position recliner – they lift and recline the entire chair.
Some VivaLift! chairs come with one memory position, while others come with two. These buttons are indicated with an “M”. When you’ve found a position you’d like to save, hold down the two memory buttons (or in the case of the Ultra, the two Tilt buttons) until the remote starts flashing. Then press one of “M” buttons to save that position.

Q: What is the best way to clean my recliner?
A: Pride offers a cleaning kit as an accessory with our lift chairs, which contains the essentials for keeping your recliner looking fresh. Whether you want to maintain the look of the fabric or you need to clean up after a spill, this kit can help you maintain the integrity of the recliner with three different solutions to remove stains. Also included is a disinfectant cleaner that doesn’t contain bleach or harsh chemicals.
Don’t forget to clean the reclining mechanism as well. We recommended wiping it down occasionally to remove dust and debris. Using a small vacuum with a brush attachment on the fabric is also recommended, as this will remove any crumbs or dirt on the surface.
Q: Can the three-zone heating feature be isolated to one area?
A: Some of our models, such as the Ultra and Radiance collections from VivaLift!, offer three-zone heating to soothe achy muscles. The zones are located in the shoulder, lumbar, and seat areas.
When the heating function is initiated, these areas will begin to warm, with three levels of heat intensity. While you can adjust the intensity to your liking, it’s not possible to isolate the heat to just one zone – all three areas will warm simultaneously.
