Nothing stops Nancy from traveling all around the world. From making memories with her many nieces and nephews. From visiting gardens, zoos, and hiking trails. From simply experiencing all life has to offer.

That’s because she has always embraced the freedom that a mobility device can provide. As Nancy puts it:
“Some people tell me that they hesitate getting [one] because they think others see them as incapable or dependent. I see it as a taking charge of your life while keeping your dignity and freedom!”
A midwestern native who retired to Florida 11 years ago with her husband Jim, Nancy was born with cerebral palsy. For decades, she has relied on Pride® Mobility scooters, and most recently, the Go Go® Travel Mobility series. That’s because of their winning combination of functionality, convenience, and looks.
“On a daily basis, I use the Go Go Elite Traveller® 3-Wheel,” Nancy said. “I really like it because it is sleek and very maneuverable, especially when I’m in a store or restaurant with limited space. It is very easy to navigate in tight spaces.”

Beyond everyday use, Nancy has enjoyed the benefits of Pride scooters for special occasions. Trips to Europe and other destinations have been made possible, along with creating lifelong memories with her family. That’s all part of the mobility journey.
“Several years ago, Jim and I traveled to Brazil and took a side trip to Iguazu Falls,” Nancy said. “It was quite a long hike to the falls and to my amazement, the path was totally accessible. We were able to see the breathtaking views because I was able to get there on my Pride scooter!
“I have forever wonderful memories of my two stepsons and 15 nieces and nephews walking by my side and taking turns riding with me on my scooter. Now their children do the same, and I’m looking forward to my first grandchild, expected in a few months, riding with me on many adventures!”

While the ability to enjoy precious moments with family and friends is paramount, Nancy also needed a reliable scooter for her career. Before her retirement, she worked at a nonprofit organization, and then as a school administrator, totaling 33 years.
“I have always strived for my independence, and the Pride Go Go scooters have provided that for me for many years,” Nancy said. “They were imperative for me to be successful at my job. They definitely helped me keep up with the students!”
Nancy has approached life with zeal and a passion for helping the disability community through her experience. She’s been involved with advocacy projects at the local, state, and national level. Her dedicated involvement is what led her to Washington, D.C. on a historic date three decades ago. It’s a mission she continues to this day.
“I was honored to be invited to the White House for the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990,” Nancy recalls. “People with disabilities need to become involved and continue to advocate for equal access within their communities. We have the same rights as anyone else to access all aspects of life.”

Nancy’s advice to those eager to regain their freedom of independence?
“Whether you have a lifelong disability or you’re newly disabled and find yourself isolated at home because you are not able to get out, go to work, or enjoy activities, do not hesitate to consider a [mobility device] that will make your life more enjoyable.
“None are as durable and dependable as Pride scooters.”
