Why does Pride use Crypton Super Fabric?
When we talk about furniture fabric, hospital-grade and peak luxury rarely show up in the same sentence.
In most cases, you can have one or the other: microbe-resistant and easy-to-clean or soft and elegant. At Pride Mobility, we’re changing the game with our partners at Crypton. We think you should be able to do both in one comfortable lift chair recliner.
Crypton’s Super Fabric — which we use at Pride to build several of our favorite lift chair recliner lines — repels stains and germs, withstands a variety of cleaning products (even a 10% bleach solution if performed correctly) and still looks and feels amazing.
Faux leather gets all the attention; maybe with good reason: some of the faux leather options in the VivaLift! Collection are absolutely stunning. But there are plenty of reasons a sensible person would never buy faux leather.
Fabric upholstery feels soft and nuzzling, unlike faux leather, which takes a minute to warm up when you sit down (unless of course you go with Pride’s warming seat options).
Maybe the leather look simply doesn’t fit your aesthetic or decor. Maybe the creaky sound of leather bothers you. Maybe you don’t like the way throw pillows slide around.
Whatever the reason, if you’re looking for a clean, soft fabric lift chair recliner, keep reading. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about Crypton Super Fabric, including how it works, how to clean it and which Pride lift chair recliners use it.
How Crypton Super Fabric works
A stack of patented engineering techniques weave together a textile so durable, the U.S. EPA designated it a solid surface, according to the company.
Unlike laminated fabrics, Crypton uses an integrated backing that doesn’t separate. That means it’s better at resisting bacteria and moisture, which cause odor.
In addition, Crypton uses silver and other chemical processes in its manufacturing that prohibit mold, harmful bacteria and viruses including:
- Staphylococcus aureus
- E coli
- MRSA
- HIV
- Hepatitis
Pretty incredible stuff, right?
That’s not all. Crypton doesn’t use formaldehyde or other ingredients that release volatile organic compounds into the air. In addition, Crypton does not use PFOS or PFOA, which have become a pervasive pollutant from both consumer and industrial products manufacturing.
How to clean Crypton fabric
So Crypton uses powerful stain, odor and microbe resistant technology, but just like any household product that sees heavy use, you will need to clean it sooner or later.
In most cases, like if something spills, you can usually just blot it up quickly with a clean dry towel or sponge. In the case of deeper stains, like when a spill goes unnoticed for a while, you might need to break out the cleaning supplies (understandably, Crypton warns that stains from some things like permanent marker or nail polish may never come out).
Crypton actually does not recommend using bleach, since other gentler products are just as effective.
In fact, the manufacturer recommends a simple solution: ¼ teaspoon of Tide or Woolite laundry detergent, or Dawn dish soap, to 1 cup of lukewarm water.
Apply by misting with a spray bottle and don’t over saturate.
Scrub lightly with a sponge or soft bristle brush. Work in from the outside of the stain and rinse the sponge frequently. Make sure to remove any soap residue and let it air dry completely.
If your cleaning routine demands bleach, some Crypton fabrics can withstand a 1:10 bleach solution (one part bleach, 10 parts water).

Finally, Crypton has its own line of cleaning products, stain removers and deodorizers specially formulated for its upholstery fabrics.
